Tonight we had an enjoyable experience dining at Royal Afghan Cuisine for the first time. We were greeted and seated immediately as there were only two other tables taken upon our arrival, but I guess it was a typical slow Tuesday night for restaurants in general.

The house salad was served with a creamy dill dressing, which could have been better if it wasn't so watered down. It was also on the plain side, iceberg lettuce with one half-slice of cucumber and one slice of tomato (see pic). The server brought out one basket of two slices of Afghan bread and a side of a spicy green dipping sauce which they call "chutney" but instead of the typical jelly-like consistency, it looked more like an olive oil dipping sauce with tapenade sunk to the bottom. I would have loved to enjoy more of this spicy sauce, but the two slices of bread were all we got.

We both ordered the Kabob-e-Chupan (marinated Afghan spice lamb loin chops) which came with rice and one quarter slice of grilled tomato...speaking of which, I just looked at the photo of Kabob-e-Chupan on their home page and it shows TWO quarter slices of grilled tomato plus a lemon wedge. As it turned out, I didn't miss that second slice of tomato, but I did enjoy every bit of those lamb loin chops...they were seasoned and cooked to perfection! Royal Afghan Cuisine is definitely worth a return trip...maybe we'll try the $8.95 Lunch Special Buffet (Mon-Fri, 11-3) everyone's talking about.

  1. Great tasting food, but very high prices. Good Food, but awful service. A very greedy owner that has ZERO clue about how to run a business. We had a gift certificate for $25 from my boss to scout the food, service, and location for a big company function in July. Needless to say, the owner refused to accept our $25 gift card because in the fine print, it stated “must present prior to ordering.”. Now I do that I did not read it and this was my fault, BUT what a foolish business decision and how rude customer service. 99.9% of other business owners would have either honored that OR at least have the common decency to come out and apologize and offer soeme other discount (15-20% off). MY fault, but their loss because I will sharwe this experience with everyone. The worst part of it all is that there seems to be a PATTERN of them not accepting coupons. There are also another yahoo thread review complianing about not accepting coupons.
